NEW TO YOGA with PARKINSON'S

I don't know what happened to Yesterday's blog about YOGA class so I will write it again!  Yesterday I went to CHAIR YOGA class.  It's good that I went to the gym and others were there because I would have left. Exercise is NOT my thing because I have painful Sciatica. I have avoided  exercise like the plague since I developed Sciatica. However, I am now determined to get back up on that horse and exercise whether it is painful or not. I want to slow down the progression of my PD as much as possible!! After the class started I didn't look at the clock and I thought we were about halfway through but when I did look at the clock only 10 freaking minutes had passed!! But I forced myself to stay and I did!! I was looking for any excuse to leave!  The only really difficult part for me was when we had to sit on the chair and  lean forward to the floor, I felt like i was going to fall into the floor so I only went part way down. Later in the afternoon when Dan came home, we went to Walmart and I bought an exercise mat because my bones hurt just laying down on the rug!  I used the mat today but it is too flimsy so I will take it back and get a thicker one I think!! My leg was throbbing like crazy today but I am hoping that it will calm down after it gets use to doing the exercise! My Sciatica is still painful but it doesn't hurt as much as it did last year!  I researched about chair Yoga online and I watched a few youtube videos and I thought, hmmmm, I think I can do it, at least I can try it!! I shouldn't complain about something being too hard until I give it a try! The chair Yoga poses didn't look too difficult and they really aren't!  Chair Yoga is a gentle form of Yoga and gives the same overall benefits of regular Yoga! I think that Yoga is supposed to improve strength, posture. and relieve pain(I'll take any or all of those).

Some of the YOGA names are crazy!!  warrior, downward facing dog?? I didn't know what the instructor meant so I just looked at the women near me and tried to imitate what they were doing. There are lots of youtube videos for Yoga so there is NO excuse for me not to do it!  And if I can do it, ANYONE can do it!!

  1. ha ha your cartoons are hysterical I need to show then to my Yoga teacher...just a point Colleen..yoga is not a competition ..you do exactley what you can do..no good yoga instructor will ever tell you waht you are doing is not godd enough..in fact a good yoga student won't either..do what you can..and I might add..Yoga is not t just postures...its about breathing ..nostrils are smaller than the mouth, air exhaled through the nose creates a back flow of air (and oxygen) into the lungs. ... Breathing through the nose forces us to slow down until proper breath is trained; therefore, proper nose breathing reduces hypertension and stress...one of the best things about Yoga is for anixiety and stree...and don't worry abpout looking at a clock..even when I am into it..and my mind is pretty relaxed..a voice keeps going....is it over yet :-)
