I recently learned that Neil Diamond has Parkinson's Disease. I always loved his music and still do! He has had PD at least since 2018. We all learned about Muhammad Ali many years ago, I had always thought he became a PD patient because he was struck in the face and head so many times .Everyone knows about Michael J Fox because he has started a foundation to help with research and treatment. Alan Alda is another famous person with PD, along with Linda Ronstadt. Another public figure with PD is Jamie Fox, he was diagnosed at age 29. The newest person that was in the news was Ozzy Osbourne. Maybe there have always been this many public figures with the disease and I just didn't notice or maybe I am noticing more because I now have PD! NBA player Brian Grant also has PD. I wonder if it is toxins in the environment that we have all been exposed to. Perhaps more and more people are being diagnosed because we now have longer life spans. And I also think that people were more secretive about their medical issues years ago. Supposedly there are over 1 million people in the U.S. diagnosed with Parkinson's and there are over 10 million people diagnosed worldwide. That is A LOT of people!
And we are them and they are us. Their celebrity only helps them with the ability to travel for clinical trials and to get into see the best specialists. But they are still us and we are still them. I feel like I have one of the best doctors. He is head of the neurology department at a major hospital system near where I live and he is a Parkinson's specialist. PD cuts across genders, races, ages, religions and socioeconomic statuses. It doesn't matter where you live or who you are.
I am going to stop posting on Facebook sites in a few weeks so please copy and paste the link below if you want to read my blog and are not my friend on Facebook! I will still post on my own Facebook page and on People with Parkinsons because I am the Administrator of that page

I am so tired of having Parkinson's and it is only a few months. I hate that I walk leaning forward and having to hold onto furniture and counters. I hate that I need to remember to take my meds or my symptoms will be more apparent. I hate that I have to take a walker everywhere I go. And I hate that I have difficulty getting up and down off of furniture and out of bed in the morning! I also hate that my gait freezes now and then and/or my entire body freezes and I feel like a stupid moron when it happens. I hate that I have to have a death grip on the banister when I go up and down stairs. I hate that my life is dependent on Parkinson's doctor and pain management doctor visits and PT. I can't stand long and I hate that, I walk slowly and I can't stand that either. That all being said I now am so so, so sleepy and tired all of the time. I have fallen asleep sitting up and I was never even able to do that before. And when I fall asleep during t...
My PT is wonderful! She is the person who suggested that I most likely have spinal stenosis in addition to piriformis syndrome. Her group has weekly meetings and they discuss their patients conditions(no names of course). The 8 physical therapists she works with all think I have spinal stenosis. Tomorrow I see my pain management doc so I will talk to her bout it. I also have an appt in July with s neurosurgeon to also discuss m surgical options if any! She told me the doc's name but I forget it! This doc is c...
This is a post from my last year's blog!(Thankfulmomoffive) I wrote a blog about 365 days of being thankful. This time last year, I had no idea that I had Parkinson's. I knew for a fact that I had sciatica!! I STILL have the same sciatica pain!!! Parkinson's was not on my mind!! I think I had Parkinson's symptoms last year and just attributed it all to sciatica issues! I was off balance, had difficulty getting up from a chair, and had difficulty turning over in bed. Now it runs my life 24/7!! I have to make sure that I take my meds and have a walker with me! I am still so thankful for the family and friends who share my life! Today I am thankful that I went to acupuncture with Renee! I was a virgin acupuncture patient! I must admit that a few of the sticks hurt a little but I am willing to do anything to rid myself of the sciatica pain. The room was warm and soothing and ...
After Ozzy Osbourne announced he has Parkinson's last month I said to my wife "Wow, I never thought I'd have anything in common with Ozzy Osbourne."
