Drumming Class
Yesterday I felt good but had a boring day so I didn't write a blog post!!! I got up and read my book and cleaned and went to the chiropractor. My sciatica pain was ok yesterday. My friend Joni got a cute little dog from a rescue place. My friend Leslie got a dog this month and so did my friend Carol. It must be dog month and I missed the memo!! I love dogs but I don't want the responsibility of caring for one.
Today was a fairly painful sciatica day! I took my meds, and then went to my pain management doctor this morning. I really like her and her PA. She is going to give me a shot in my muscle near the piriformis muscle next week. I can't wait. I am hoping that will relieve some of the pain.(A piriformis steroid injection is an injection of a long lasting steroid into the piriformis muscle of your buttock. This muscle attaches to the side of the sacrum, which is the side, flat bone at the base of your spine just above your tailbone.) This is a site pain injection and I will not be put out for it! I hope it isn't too painful!!
After the drumming class, I went home because my in-home PT was coming. I really like her but I was really sore after she left! She showed me some new exercises to do. They are now focusing on helping relieve some of my sciatica before they start the LSVT BIG Program to help with my Parkinson's. I also have to have speech therapy because they think my voice is lower!
LSVT BIG trains people with Parkinson disease (PD) to use their body more normally. People living with PD or other neurological conditions often move differently, with gestures and actions that become smaller and slower. They may have trouble with getting around, getting dressed and with other activities of daily living. LSVT BIG effectively trains improved movements for any activity, whether “small motor” tasks like buttoning a shirt or “large motor” tasks like getting up from sofa or chair or maintaining balance while walking. The treatment improves walking, self-care and other tasks by helping people “recalibrate” how they perceive their movements with what others actually see. It also teaches them how and when to apply extra effort to produce bigger motions – more like the movements of everyone around them.

I went to a drumming class that my friend Angela told me about! It is for senior citizens(silver sneakers)! Yikes!!I guess I am a senior citizen!! Drum sticks are used to bang on a huge exercise ball, even I can do that!!
I got there a little late because I came right from my pain management doctor appointment. The woman who leads the class is quite peppy and energetic! I think I am a dyslexic drummer. If I didn't have my sciatica issue, I would be able to move my feet better! I have now had sciatica for over a year!! Lucky me! The class was fun! A woman in the class said Hi, Colleen, I had no idea who she was but I knew she was a teacher!! I thought she was a second grade teacher at a school I worked at. She came over to talk to me before she left, she was Renee's nursery school teacher!! I just loved her! Her daughter is now teaching the nursery school class! It's a small world! I must be old because everywhere I go lately, someone knows me! I was at Paneras with a friend last week and a woman I taught with at West Chester University recognized me! I taught there when Renee was a preschooler and she is now 30 years old! I think I taught at about 20 schools, colleges, and universities over my teaching career! After the drumming class, I went home because my in-home PT was coming.
