Parkinsons Diagnosis from a Parkinson's Specialist

Today I went to my chiropractor in the morning.  I just love him, he is such a nice person and really good  at what he does.  I don't know why some people don't believe in chiropractors. He is the ONLY person who  has helped relieve most of my sciatica.  And sciatica pain is intensely painful!!I am definitely a believer in deep tissue laser massage. It just feels like a warm back massage running up and down your back.  It does not hurt at all and the relief is quick and soothing. ( Deep Tissue Laser Therapy is a revolutionary technology that helps decrease pain, without drugs or surgery. The Class 4 Laser in the Lightforce EX works through photobiomodulation. ... Quite simply, if it hurts, Deep Tissue Laser Therapy can help. Laser therapy uses a process called photobiomodulation. Photons enter the tissue and interact with the cytochrome c complex within mitochondria. This interaction triggers a biological cascade of events that leads to an increase in cellular metabolism and a decrease in both pain and inflammation. Unlike medications, laser therapy reduces pain without undesirable side effects).  I am afraid to stop going to him even though I am starting to feel better.  I don't want it to come back at all or with a vengeance! I told him that I am a blogger and I mentioned in my blog how much he has helped me and he said he thought I was a blogger type and now he feels famous!! If anyone local wants to use him, send me a private message and I will send you his contact info.

Later in the afternoon I had my long awaited appointment with a Parkinson's specialist. He is head of the neurology department at the hospital he works in.  It took me over three months to get an appointment with this neurologist, and I only got this one because someone cancelled.  He has a fabulous reputation and is a very nice man. The people at the Rock Steady gym all recommend him and he sees many of the members.  He told  me that I definitely have Parkinson's disease and it is not atypical. I guess I knew the answer before he told me but I was so hoping that he would say I had something temporary, some temporary movement disorder.  But I guess it is better to face the beast and know the beast instead of hoping the beast didn't exist.  He said that only 30% of people start their disease with tremors.  He said I could develop tremors at any time and maybe not for a long time and maybe never(but not likely, only 10% of patients never develop tremors). He said that every person is different but that it definitely is a progressive disease.  Of course I asked him a million questions because I am an anal former reading specialist and I have been reading everything I can about this awful disease. He told me that I should also see a speech therapist because my voice is low. I really don't want to add another appointment to my list but I will because I am rules oriented!  My girlfriend Mary retired in Jan. and told me that she is bored because she always worked full-time.  I don't have time to be bored because of all of my medical issues!! The doc also said my handwriting is very small and that is another marker for Parkinson's. He answered all of my questions and said he thought I was a former teacher because of the things I asked about. I said to him, "you probably hate all of these internet doctors" like me who think they know so much!  I asked about disease progression, driving, medicines, PT, Rock Steady Boxing, sciatica, hallucinations, and clinical trials.  I asked him how likely I was to get dementia and he said there is no rhyme or reason to this disease.  He told me I wasn't a fit for any clinical trials going on right now! He definitely recommends Rock Steady Boxing and PT.  He increased my meds by half a tablet three times daily. It sometimes helps patients and sometimes makes no difference at all. He thought my strength and my balance were really good.
Dan and I went to Staples to get a new desk chair for me!!  The wheel broke off of my old one.I am loving my new desk chair!  It feels so good for my back.
